Renoir High School, Paris

The challenge was to connect various buildings situated on either side of a street while integrating them into their immediate surroundings. The coloring of metal slats embedded in the polycarbonate of the façade allows, through a play of colors, for a gradual transition from the green of the vegetation in the neighboring cemetery to the orange of the brick buildings on the other side. A subtle tension arises from this juxtaposition of colors. This dialogue between the facades continues into the school’s inner courtyard and extends to the caretaker’s house, which takes on an intermediate golden hue. The interior signage, by contrast, remains very understated: small-scale text painted directly onto the wall, positioned in relation to the silver-toned base of the spaces. Design
