Molière Park, Les Mureaux
We proposed the signage project as a tool for creating a new mental map of the city and for identifying the various facilities located on either side of this green axis. At the road crossings within the park, along the axis, signage elements featuring a schematic map will be installed, allowing visitors to see where they are located along the spine of the park and which structures are situated within and to the left and right of the park. These elements will be placed so as not to obstruct the view and will use the same wood materials as the existing barriers: stacked wooden sections form the body of the element, which is covered with a lacquered metal information panel. On the directional signs, built on the same principle, one side will feature directions to nearby institutions, while the other will display the Molière Park identifier and the rules. All other inscriptions will be applied directly to existing vertical surfaces (walls and low walls, barriers, street furniture, etc.). The tone here may vary, and the inscription will incorporate a poetic dimension. It will be created on-site using lettering (calligraphy), stencils, or engraving, directly on the existing vertical surfaces.
Starting with the name “Les Mureaux”—that is, the name of the city, which is always accompanied by plural articles (les, des, aux)—it seemed interesting to generally cultivate the use of articles to designate Le-Parc-Molière, as well as all the destinations present. Rather than highlighting the names of the places, we highlighted the types of structures (park, elementary school, community gardens, castle, forest…). Finally, a digital companion to the signage is offered in the form of a QR code. The size of a punctuation mark, it allows users to interact with their surroundings and learn more about nearby facilities and infrastructure.
