MAC VAL, Val-de-Marne Museum of Contemporary Art, Vitry-sur-Seine

In keeping with the MAC VAL’s educational mission, the signage design places all information approximately 50 centimeters above the floor, ensuring it is visible to all visitors. A single type of display unit was designed. It consists of a bench with glass panels on both sides, echoing the architectural style of the lobby, inside or on top of which all types of information are integrated. Beyond their signage function, these units also serve as simple seats where visitors can sit or lean back. On the museum’s forecourt, four illuminated sign-benches indicate and identify the museum. In the lobby, directional information benches guide visitors to the museum’s various sections. In the exhibition areas, the benches serve as information stations. On the upper shelves, explanatory texts and various media allow visitors to enrich their visit. Also positioned fifty centimeters above the floor, the artwork labels—composed of cut-out adhesive letters—are affixed directly to the picture rails. For optimal readability, they are larger than standard labels.
