2017

World Design Summit, Montreal

The 2017 World Design Summit in Montreal had the overarching theme “driving change through design” and brought together design enthusiasts and professionals from around the world. For this event, we were commissioned to design part of the space dedicated to the summit’s various booths, which focused on political, sociological, economic, and ecological issues.

In 2016, Vera Baur, Ruedi Baur, and Axel Steinberger initiated a project paying homage to the Isotype system developed in 1925 by the Austrian socio-economist Otto Neurath and the German graphic designer Gerd Arntz. The first step was the creation of a series of illustrations based on Isotype principles and centered on the theme “what people do for money” as part of the visual language design for Manifesta 11 in Zurich, an international exhibition of contemporary art.

Building on this initial work, intégral designers created a new series of illustrations for the World Design Summit, addressing its various themes. Six groups of large-format illustrations were produced, and their installation in the space highlighted the issues at play in inventing a shared future.
